Marketing yourself, is something that you could also start before you get out of college, thus you have a somewhat "reputation" and makes it easier when people ask for references. Good point on not being cheap either, a domain will cost you $10 dollars, and than hosting various from company, but since your just beginning you don't need anything big. Get a personal domain, or something that will reflect you and your work. Also some of these tips can be used outside the "design" field. Great post!
